DirectorMy name is Suzi Simmons and I have been with Good News Preschool since 2015 as a teacher, assistant director and director. Our school has the most amazing staff, students and families, and it is truly an honor to work here!
A little bit about me: I am a native Austinite. I graduated from Westwood High School and I earned both my undergraduate degree and my Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from Trinity University in San Antonio. After college, I taught at the elementary level in Pflugerville ISD and Round Rock ISD. I took a break from teaching when I was blessed with my first child, however I did go back to school online to earn my Nutrition Therapist certificate from the Nutrition Therapy Institute while I was a stay-at-home mom.
After 10 years of staying home I re-entered the workforce when my youngest child started Kindergarten. I was a substitute teacher in Leander ISD. I had a brief break from working when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. God gave me tremendous strength during my cancer battle, and in 2015 with a healthy cancer-free body I went back to work, this time as a preschool teacher at the fabulous Good News Preschool!
Outside of Good News Preschool I can be found spending time with my two wonderful daughters Katie (14) and Angie (10) and my husband Brian, who was my college sweetheart. We love to travel, hike, and watch our girls sports/dance activities. I also love reading, crafts, exercising, and playing with my dogs!
4/5 Lead TeacherMy name is Mary Strickland. I am a native New Orleanian and have loved living in Austin for the last 15 years. I am a proud Mom to two grown girls, one a junior at Oklahoma and one a fourth- grade teacher in Austin. I have been married to my college sweetheart for 28 years. I received my BA in Liberal Arts at Louisiana State University and began teaching fine arts at elementary schools in New Orleans. Upon moving to Texas, I began instructing Art education workshops for Early Childhood Educators and teaching preschool. My heart is most full in the classroom, nurturing and guiding children in the discovery of their worlds. My passion is creating a joy and excitement for learning that will follow a child throughout their life. Sharing God’s love with children builds my own faith and reminds me of our Father’s great love for us. I am so thrilled to be on staff at Good News. If I am not busy teaching children, I can be found writing and illustrating children’s picture books and chasing the dream of one day being published.
4/5 Lead TeacherMy name is Anna Lei. I was born and raised in Hong Kong. When I was 17 years old, I made a critical decision to study abroad. I graduated from UT Austin where I majored in Applied Learning and Development and was certified in early childhood through 4th grade. After I graduated, I was eager to go back to Hong Kong and I applied what I had learned in the States to my hometown. I taught English in elementary school in Hong Kong for about 5 years. It was a very special experience in my life.
After teaching in Hong Kong for a few years, I moved back to Austin and taught in a PreK classroom for 3 years. I am married and blessed to have two daughters who are 4 and 6. I have been taking care of my children as a stay-home mom since their birth, but my passion in teaching in the classroom never ceases. I am very thankful and excited to join Good News Preschool.
I like to travel and learn about different cultures. In my spare time, I like swimming, cooking and exercising. I am also involved in church choir and teaching Preschoolers in Sunday school.

As an added bonus, my husband Mark and I are the Children’s Directors at our church, North View Community Church, where we have been members for some time now.
